Typical Service Schedule
• • Prune, edge, fertilize, mulch as needed or as permitted Manage Turf according to the following schedule:

March-May:

Fertilizing - Yellow appearance may be an indication of iron deficiency. Spray iron (ferrous) sulfate (2 ounces in water per 1,000 sq. ft.) or a chelated iron source to enhance color as needed. Follow label directions.

Weed Control - Apply pre-emergence herbicides to control crabgrass, goose grass, and foxtail. Apply by the time that dogwoods are in full bloom. Apply post-emergence herbicides in May as needed for control of summer annual and perennial broadleaf weeds such as knotweed, spurge, lespedeza, etc. Do not apply until 3 weeks after green up.

Insect Control - Check for white grubs and control if necessary.

Thatch Removal - Power rake (vertical mow) to remove thatch in late May if necessary.

Aerate - Heavily trafficked sections of lawn may benefit from aeration. If it is needed, aerate in late spring or early summer when the grass is actively growing and capable of recovery.

Renovation - Replant large bare areas in May

June-August

Fertilizing - Fertilize with 1/2 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. (once a year) in mid-June

Weed Control -Apply post-emergence herbicides as needed for control of summer annual and perennial broadleaf weeds, such as knotweed, spurge, lespedeza, etc.

Insect Control - Check for white grubs and control if necessary.

September-November

Fertilizing - Fertilize with 1 pound of potash (K2O) per 1,000 sq. ft. 4 to 6 weeks before expected frost

Insect Control - Check for white grubs and control if necessary.

December-February

Fertilizing – No fertilization of centipede grass at this time. Submit soil samples for analysis every 3 years to determine nutrient requirements. (We will do this in 2007 to establish a baseline.)

Weed Control - Apply broadleaf herbicides as necessary for control of chickweed, henbit, etc. Apply herbicides in November or December for control of annual bluegrass broadleaf weeds.

Note: If a different blend of grasses is planted, the schedule will be altered slightly as to the length of grass when cutting, fertilizing needs and aeration. **Verity Management Solutions LLC is a member of the Turfgrass Council of North Carolina and adheres to the NC State Cooperative Extension’s recommendations on turf grass management.
